Design File Thursday April 28, 2011 {Lighting}

Today I am talking about lighting and letting you take another pick into my design file for my future beach home.  My dream home was yesterdays post.  I think lighting is very important.  It is sore spot with me because where I currently live I am surrounded by trees which blocks a lot of the natural light I wish I had.  So, I have said to myself my next home will include more natural lighting if possible.  So, I wanted to point out some of the pieces I thought would fit well with my lifestyle.

I tried to include lighting that had some natural fabrics, various textures and sizes.  Of all of them my favorites are the antler chandelier, the mercury bottom table lamp and the 9 arm grande claire.  The 9 arm grande claire chandelier {second group last photo} comes from Ballard Designs and it’s absolutely stunning I have it in my formal dining area now.  The price I thought was reasonable at $399.00 and it looks like it cost so much more.  The quality has been exceptional and I have not had any issues with it.

I also included a ceiling fan from Restoration Hardware while living in Texas we don’t get much of a winter we do get a prolonged summer and it’s hot.  So ceiling fans are much of a reality for me thus on the hunt for fans that mesh with your interiors is a must for me.  I hate some of them because they can be big, overpowering and chunky looking.

Ok the hemp covered chair has nothing to do with lighting but I thought it was so clean, crisp and its natural touches had my mind spinning!  It’s made from 100% natural hemp fabric, the wood has been stained with a lime grey stain and accented with a nail head trim.  The French Camelback chair goes great with vintage, new and even some modern spaces.  I think it is very versatile it’s from Shades of Light.

Well that’s all from my design file for this week.  Do you have any favorite places for lighting?  If so, please feel free to share and if you already have lighting in your home that you love leave a link below so all of us can take a peek.

I am a huge fan of the antler chandelier! I *really* love the ceramic version by Jason Miller, but I doubt I’d ever be able to afford that baby! Oh, and I’m so glad you included that chair in your post! Hemp covered…I’m lovin’it!

Thanks Shari for saying that about trees I have a love hate relationship with them because I have so many. I have had to trim tons of them back and remove a couple because of damage to my home. So, I understand your feelings toward them to.

I recognized the stuff from Ballard Designs… one of my fave catalogs! I love the mercury glass bottomed lamps…. I have one in CA, which I’ll get eventually! I also have a lamp with a mirrored base, which I love, with a black shade on it. Yummy lighting..

I agree that a lot of natural light is preferable. My apartment in PA has tons of natural light, as did my last home. I find that I get depressed if it’s too dark inside! (I lived in the trees before, too, and though I loved the trees, they took away all the natural light, and it was hard sometimes.)
