Rachel Ashwell Brings A Little Shabby To Texas

Yes, she did…she created a fabulous bed and breakfast compound near Round Rock, TX.  I bring you “The Prairie” by Rachel Ashwell.  Yes, the lady who brought us the great life of learning to live with shabby items, looking at garage sales, tag sales and flea markets differently.  One of the original DIY’ers.  I’m from Texas so you know I had to do a little show and tell.  I love when someone has dream about doing something and it’s been a long time in the making and they decide to take action to make it happen.  It just makes the journey so much sweeter don’t you think?  Rachel had a thought and a dream and made it happen.

I love the name of the bed and breakfast “The Prairie” and if any of you have ever visited this area you know the name fits the bed and breakfast.  The property has a Rangers Lounge and Commons area and four other cottages with cute names Meadow Manor, Liliput Lodge, Cornflower Cottage and The Bluebonnet Barn.  Rachel decorated each of these cottages herself and I don’t need to talk about any of her styling her work speaks for its self.  The photos above give you an idea of her cozy style and all the little shabby details.

Let’s have a little imagination here…if this bed and breakfast were on the beach anywhere it would be just heavenly.  I can just imagine after a good nights sleep in one of these lovely rooms, a nice quiet breakfast and then a quick walk on the beach.  Hint Hint if you ever find a property such as this and it’s on the beach…the sign outside would surely say “No vacancies”.

I think I have just about every book she has written and have enjoyed them and her style of design for many years.  I am not a really shabby person but I do have touches of it through out my home.  I love touches of vintage mixed in with all the other items I have in my home.  It’s something about the history of having old things around and they make great conversation pieces.  I love when someone visits and picks out something really old and I can tell a story or talk about where it came from or who might have owned it.  History it’s a good thing.
